After you have read the two "voices" of these 2 security officers of different eras, then I'll ask the question, MY question. First, this comes from a friend who used to work as a
casino security around two decades ago. (I interviewed him sometime last year regarding that, but for a different purpose.) I asked him how he would define the job description of a security officer of a casino. His answer: In the past, it was all about "kicking out" people. He had as "teammates" an ex-cop and an ex-boxer, and when the Big boss said 'throw the guy out", he meant it literally most of the time. If the Big Boss said "Make sure he would never be here again", it meant that some "physical persuasion" was called for, you get the meaning. For the drunks, it is a different story, the Big boss might want him to just leave for the night, but he would be welcomed once he is back to normal. In this case, a "talker" accompanied by one of the big guys would approach the drunk...it worked almost all the time.
The second one, is another friend, a much younger person this time, and he is serving as a security guy for an off-Vegas casino. I asked him the same question, but for the present generation's perspective. He said: nowadays, the number one thing to protect is to shield the firm from lawsuits, everything else is secondary. Thus, for all
problematic guests, everything now is done via public relations, there is no more of the physical thing...well, almost none.
Now I am done, here is the question, MY question: comparing the long-ago and the present casino security scenarios, do you agree that the changes have been monumental in nature?
